The Giver This character is the keeper of all of society's bad memories. He remembers everything bad to give advice to the head elders on what to do and what not to do. But, The Giver is the most important person in the world to this society because it's the only true natural form of life in a person. He also was the one that has watched Jonas throughout him growing up and chose him to be the next giver for society.
Jonas This character is this novels protagonist. Jonas was always the one that felt like he stood out of place with his society. Jonas also had no clue what was wrong with him when he started seeing " incredible" sights within small things around him. (Seeing color). When he turned twelve and got chosen to be the next giver in this community his whole life changed when he experienced new emotions and understood how powerful they were, good or bad.
Fiona In the novel Fiona plays a crucial role in developing Jonas into the person he is. This character stands out because her hair is a little bit different than everyone's because it's red. And obviously Jonas falls in love with her in the very beginning of growing up with her because it's the only mere glimpse of color he can see and attaches to that with the emotion he realizes is love.
The Chief Elder In this story the grand elder is thought to be almost the president of the society. She is super charismatic towards all the young lings during the ceremony of twelve. In the novel she shows emotion and seems to generally care for everyone in the society. In my opinion she does care about the well being of people, a little too much.
